Getting Ready For Company!

Guess what? Yep...you're right, we're having company!

Good evening to all! How are you? I am doing much better. My headache is gone. My friend "Murphy" has gone to go visit someone else! Lol!

I am getting ready to have the Trillos over for dinner tomorrow night. They are also bringing a really nice young man, Rodney. He is the newest member of our church congregation. He just happens to be dating Sonia Trillo! Such a cute couple! Rodney happens to be deaf. I am amazed at how well Sonia is able to sign with him. I used to sign in college, but it's been years and I've forgotten a lot of it. We all wanted to get together so we can practice signing some more. Rodney is very excited to come out to the farm. He wants to milk our goats! Boy, we'll get him fixed up!

I am making chimichangas, spicy pinto beans with chicos, cornbread, calabacitas, sopapillas with our own honey, and fried ice cream too! I asked Sonia what they would like to eat. I figured they would probably want something different than Mexican food, but she said they LOVE chili, red or green, it doesn't matter! So Mexican it is! I can't wait!

Well, I need some much needed sleep. I have a busy day tomorrow finishing up cooking and cleaning my house too! I may not blog tomorrow if we stay up late. If we don't, I may just post some pictures of our fun dinner party! Rest well my dear friends.

God bless you all!

Going Round Four With the Mold

Good evening! Sorry it has taken me several days to write another post. I have been having several REALLY rough days around here and I am just now getting my feet back up underneath me.

I got up this morning and I made Nathan some Greek yogurt for breakfast. It took me three days to make it. I actually made it out of goat milk. Nathan said it was very good. After we all fed the goat kids, the boys took all six kids outside for the day. The boys had breakfast. After breakfast, I worked my way out to the garage to do chores.

Aaron helped me by dumping all the fodder trays outside. They were all moldy again. :( I took each tray, one-by-one, sprayed them with bleach, wiped them down and cleaned the drain system. I then put all the trays back where they belonged. Aaron dumped the reservoir tank and I bleached that out as well, refilled it with fresh water, spread another two fresh trays of sprouted wheat berries. We're going to give this another try. Chad and Nathan have been testing the water and it was too alkaline, so they had to add vinegar to the reservoir to try and balance the Ph of the water. I started soaking another two trays worth of wheat berries for tomorrow.

After I got all that done, I decided to help Nathan out and do his water changes for him in both of the tilapia tanks. This is a big deal for me. I do NOT like to stick my hands in any fish tank...these I don't mind as much since they typically stay away from anything coming in their tank. Unfortunately, I let my mind wander, and then BAMMM!!! One nailed my hand when I wasn't looking! I guess that teaches me to be nice, huh?

All my chores took about 2 1/2 hours straight. Then I helped Jordan finish his math assessments on the computer. The boys actually finished school a little earlier today. We did our evening chores early, then we left for karate. When we got home from karate, Nathan was out doing chores. I called him and asked him what he was doing since we had already done chores except for milking and feeding the babies. Nathan said our one goat who we thought was bred, but didn't look too far in her pregnancy, had a baby some time after we had done our chores this afternoon. When the boys did their chores, she hadn't had her baby yet. She was a first time mother. She had no clue what to do and wouldn't let Nathan have anything to do with touching her bags to milk her. In seeing that, we figure she didn't let her baby nurse as soon as she was born. Yes, it was a girl and only one. When Nathan found her, she was already gone. I am very sad. I know that's the way things go around here on a farm, but it doesn't make it any easier to accept. She was a beautiful black Nubian.

We made rabbit stew again for dinner, Aaron and Faith (his dog), make quite the hunting pair! Faith is awesome at chasing them and trapping them into a pipe. She'll keep it trapped until Aaron comes and gets it out. I've been teaching my bus how to cook, so they can cook while Nathan and I are on our cruise next month. Jordan chopped up some potatoes. Aaron deboned the rabbit meat and I threw in some frozen garlic vegetables. We let that cook since last night in my crock pot. Then this afternoon before we left for karate, I added some brown gravy mix, green chili, and some corn starch to thicken it. Before we were ready to eat, I made some cheddar garlic biscuits (just like the ones they serve at Red Lobster). Boy! That really hit the spot.

Well, I am completely run down. I have not been sleeping too well at all. Please pray that I may have a restful and peaceful night's sleep. May you be blessed beyond measure tomorrow. Rest well. Be safe. Until tomorrow...

Seriously CRAZY Day!

Good evening! How are you? Sorry I didn't write anything yesterday. But I am glad I get to write a little snippet tonight!

Got up at 6:45, got chores going. Fixed a breakfast to go for everyone. Got Nathan and Aaron off. Aaron was going to take a bunch of his chickens to sell at the poultry sale in Edgewood. Aaron backed up my Honda Pilot and hooked up our small trailer. They put a large cube shaped fencing crate on the trailer and also two extra-large dog crates. They got 50 chickens loaded up. Nathan took Aaron there to the chicken sale and parked my vehicle and trailer there. I came afterwards and picked Nathan up. We left Aaron there to handle the sales all by himself! He did fantastic. He sold about 30 chickens.

I drove Nathan and myself to a local church there in Edgewood and we attended an all day Concealed Carry Weapons training. We were there at 8:50. Class started at 9. We had an interactive lecture and we also got fingerprinted. We broke for lunch at 11:50. I drove Nathan back over to the chicken sale and Nathan drove Aaron home. I went to Walmart and bought some drinks, then I went over to the China Chef and ordered General Tso's chicken. It was so wonderful. Nathan took Aaron home, unloaded the trailer, then drove back just in time for class to start again. Class went until 5:10.

We drove over to my friend's house, Jeanne, and I left my car parked at her house. We took Jeanne's Mustang to town. We were invited to a black belt meeting at the Japanese Kitchen. It was indescribable. They served an eight-course meal. I couldn't eat another bite. I was so proud of myself. I actually ate some REAL sushi and a couple of bites of SUSHIMI!!! My opinion of sushi still hasn't changed! All the other food was great! Jeanne and I were the sole source of entertainment for our Sensei Caesar! I think he enjoyed himself a bit too much making Jeanne and I uncomfortable all night since he was pulling our legs all night! Well, I just got home with leftovers out the wazoo. The food they served just for me tonight was enough food to feed my entire family of four!

Well, I am exhausted! I need to get some sleep. Thanks for keeping up with my blogs. May God bless us all tonight. Until tomorrow...

Dojo Party

Good evening to all! How are you tonight? I am great.

I got up early, fixed Nathan's breakfast and lunch and saw him off to work. Got the boys up and around and did their chores. While they were doing their morning chores, I fixed them some breakfast. I made them fried sausage patties and French toast. Then I spent the rest of the morning doing my chores.

I finally got a shower right before my piano lesson with Avery. His lesson was at 11:30 and he almost caught me doing chores still in my pj's!

After the lesson was over, I soaked some sodas in some ice to chill for our dojo party this afternoon. Then I made three dozen jalapeño poppers. I cut the jalapeños in half and remove all the seeds. I softened some cream cheese and filled each pepper. Then I wrapped each one in turkey bacon and fastened each one with a toothpick. I then heated the grill on high, then I turned it down to medium and placed all the poppers top side (cream cheese side) down. I grilled until the bacon was crisp and flipped it over and finished grilling it till the bacon got done.

We went to the party. We had a great time. I officially earned my first kyu (no B)!!! I was so proud of Aaron. He earned his straight 1kyu! Then we are so happy for our friend Sam. He earned his provisional black belt. We were very happy also for our dear Sensei. This was a big day for him as well. Sam is his first black belt student ever!!! Congratulations Sensei!

I also had some great news. I am in charge of fundraising for our East Mountain Dojo so all of our students who want to attend summer camp, can go. I wrote three letters to local business owners to ask them to sponsor some of our students or make a one-time donation. I got my first response today! My boys' orthodontist, Dr. Hurt, called and wants to donate $250 to our dojo to go towards camp! I am very excited! I am still waiting to hear from the other two. Hopefully, they will be willing to help as well!

Well, I am a little worn out tonight, so I am going to relax for a while before heading to bed. I think Aaron wants to go over some of his music with me before he goes to bed tonight. Until tomorrow...rest well and know that I am praying sweet things for you! God bless!

Visiting With My In-Laws

Good evening. How are you this cold and chilly night? I am tucked warm and cozy underneath my heating blanket!

As an update, all six goat kids are doing great! They are quite a handful, but also quite a blessing. I love each and every one of them. It's amazing how they each have a very unique personality.

My in-laws flew in last night and we were blessed with their presence all day today. Unfortunately, they had to fly back home to Arizona tonight. Wished they could've stayed longer. We got to stay up last night and talk about our plans on the cruise we're taking together in April. Nathan and his dad were like two kids in a candy store! They were so cute! They were getting very excited about the trip. Duane started pulling out maps and research documents on the ports of call that we are stopping at. Anita and I just looked at each other and said, "I'm glad THEY are the ones planning it, not us! We're here for the ride!" Don't get me wrong, Anita and I did some research on the different tours and excursions and we put in our two cents worth the last time they came through town. I am definitely NOT a planner, that's why I'm relieved that both Nathan and his dad like to plan.

Well, I am already missing Anita and she hasn't even been gone two hours! Oh, well...I believe they're coming back in March, so I will definitely be looking forward to that. I pray you are well rested tonight. May God bless you! Until tomorrow...

Monday Madness

Good evening! How are you tonight? I am wiped out!

I had a typical morning here around the farm. I ran into Moriarty to the local grocery store. Nathan's been looking for brewers yeast and we can't seem to find it anywhere. You wouldn't think it would be that hard to find. We did find it in pill form at Petco, but it also had garlic in it. Nathan has a recipe to make a protein patty to feed our honey bees, so we thought a garlic flavored honey would NOT be the best thing! Does anyone know where we can buy it locally?

The boys and I left the house at 1:30 to make it to the boys' orthodontic appointment by 2:20. They were running behind and didn't even call either one of them back until 2:50. We got both of them done and were leaving by 3:30. I had an appointment at the Apple service store at 3:50. We pulled in at exactly 3:45 and actually found a parking spot directly in front of the store! That is a miracle in and of itself since it is in Uptown and you can never seem to find a parking place anywhere close to where you need to be! Jordan had a warranty issue with his iPod that he just had replaced last Wednesday and guess what? They replaced it again for free! I love warranties, especially when the company actually lives up to it!

We left the apple store at 4:15. I drove straight to Cedar Crest and stopped at our dentist's office, Dr. Retzer. I am trying to raise funds for kids from our East Mountain dojo to be able to attend National Karate Camp this summer in Santa Fe. Master Osaka (who is one generation away from Master Funakoshi, the Father of modern karate) will be doing seminars and working with us. He will also be demonstrating for everyone. I am so excited to watch him...I've never seen a Master perform a kata before. Anyways, I have been asking several businesses that I know if they might be willing to sponsor some of our students who would like to go, but may need a little help to get there. We left from there to go up the street to Aaron's guitar lesson at the Village Guitarist. While Aaron was getting his lesson, Jordan and I parked across the parking lot and went to my favorite coffee shop. Had a great time just chilling out and enjoying not have to rush off to be somewhere!

After lessons were over, Aaron drove us home. Our six babies were anxiously waiting for us to come home to bring them inside and feed them some dinner! As soon as we fed all of them, they all passed out! They were so tired from playing outside, being a little cooler, getting their bellies filled with nice warm milk, and just warming up...they couldn't help but fall right to sleep! I don't think I've ever seen them all fall asleep so quickly! It was so nice and quiet! Well, we've come up with names for all six of them. I even have them color coded so we can keep straight who is who. Light pink is for Jasmine. Hot pink is for Grace. Purple is for Paige-Laressa. Red is for Chester. Blue is for Tundra. And black is for Siggy (short for Sigmund). They are just way too cute. I have things that I know needs to be done, but I just don't want to put them down. I love this stage of their life. They are still so small, they don't fight and they just love to snuggle for warmth!

I am getting pretty sleepy, so I am turning in for the night. I pray you sleep well tonight. Btw, I have a very special prayer request. One of my good friends has a baby girl who is underweight. The doctors are pretty concerned with her not just getting big enough. Her name is Eva Grace. Please pray that God would allow her to grow to be big, strong and healthy. She is just about adorable as they come! Thank you for praying for her. May God grant you peace tonight as you sleep! Until tomorrow...God bless.

I've Got A Cure For What Ails Ya!

Good evening everyone. I am starting to wind down for the evening.

We had a wonderful day at church today. Rodney, a good friend of the Trillos, was baptized into the church this morning!

This is going to be a short blog for tonight. Are you sick? Are you tired of getting sick? Boy! D I have an all natural cure for whatever is bothering you! My sweet mother-in-law, Anita, makes this wonderful potion we call "winky juice". You get onion, garlic, ginger root, horseradish root, and habenero peppers and chop them in your food processor (about 1 cup each) and put into a glass gallon jar. Then you take apple cider vinegar and fill the gallon jar to the top. You put a lid on loosely and let marinate and "get happy" for two weeks in a cool place (not in direct sunlight). After two weeks, you strain out all the pulp and store in the refrigerator until ready to use. When you feel a sore throat coming on or colds and flu start going around, Anita pours a little into a small juice glass with some tomato juice. If you don't like tomato juice, you can dilute it a little bit in water or just cowboy up and chug it straight! You can take this several times a day. It will cure whatever ails you (if it doesn't kill you first)! That's a joke in my house. I am too chicken to try it! Nathan and Aaron take it. My mother-in-law takes it. My dear friend Aysha took it and she had been sick for over a week. She had to take antibiotics and she was hacking and couldn't even talk. She chugged enough winky juice for about 3-4 days in about 1 1/2 days and by the next day, she could talk! She is definitely a believer!

Well, I am going to get some sleep. I was pretty tired today from getting up with all the goat babies last night. They sure are cute, but they really keep us all busy.

Enjoy the picture of my winky juice marinating and getting happy!

God bless you all tonight. Sleep well.

It's A Boy And A Girl!

Good afternoon! How are you? We are a little tired, but blessed!

Nathan got called in to work late last night and didn't get home until 2:15. Poor guy was exhausted! I was going to let him sleep in this morning, but Lucy (our Nubian goat), had different plans!

Chad, Nathan's brother, called us this morning around 7:45. Chad and his kids do the milking now on the weekends. Chad called and said we had one baby goat on the ground. By the time Nathan and I hopped out of bed, got dressed and went out there, we had TWO babies on the ground! We are still working on names for them. It's a good thing chad found them when he did. It was pretty chilly this morning and their momma does not have any motherly instincts. She did the same thing last year. She dropped a boy and a girl last year and just walked away from them. So, we are bottle-feeding these two little precious babies! I spoil them rotten! I wrapped the little girl in a towel, fed her and rocked her to sleep in my rocking chair! Nathan just shakes his head and smiles at me and my crazy animal quirks. But who can resist snuggling a poor, helpless, adorable baby (human or animal)??? I know I can't!

Well, I am typing this with one hand as I am currently rocking my little girl to sleep. Enjoy the pics! God bless!

Please!! Help Us Eat!

Good evening everyone! How are you tonight? I am pretty well, thank you.

Well, I had a busy morning today. I got up at 5:50 and got ready to go to town. I left the house by 6:30. I ran by Walmart and picked up a birthday card for a dear friend. I had a breakfast meeting where I discussed fund raising events for our dojo. Got done with breakfast around 9:00. Drove to the Farmer's Market and bought a boat load of vegetables for our dinner tonight.

We had dinner plans with our friends, the Radigans. Nicole and William have a lovely family with six children. I adore each and every one of them! They actually have very strict diet restrictions. They eat mostly meat and vegetables. They don't eat carbs, sugar, flour, etc.

When I got home from running errands, I put three pot roasts in my two crock pots. I cut up five heads of cauliflower, 2 pounds of broccoli crowns, and 3 pounds of green beans. I boiled the cauliflower and seasoned them just like mash potatoes. I took the broccoli and tossed them with a little olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper. I broiled them just until they started to barely brown around the edges. I steamed the green beans, then added butter, salt and pepper. I called the Radigans and asked them to bring board games so when it got too cold for the kids outside, they'd have someone to do indoors. About five minutes after I got off the phone with Nicole, one of her sons got sick and threw up. She called me back and decided it would be best not to "share the wealth"!

So...now I've got a kitchen full of food and no one to eat it. It would've taken my family a month to eat it all! I got busy on my phone. I called our friend Avram and invited him for supper. I called Nathan's brother and his wife, Chad and Tonya, and invited them and their three kids. I felt like the parable where the king had prepared a wedding feast and none of the guests came. He finally sent his servants out into the highways and gathered anyone who would attend the wedding feast and the house was filled with guests!

We had a wonderful time with everyone. The only things missing were my parents and my in-laws!
My house is clean. My kitchen is clean. There's only one other thing I could want. Nathan got called into work tonight. He isn't on call. He had a nurse arranged to go check on a patient tonight and she got into a car accident on the way to the patient's house. So now, Nathan has a long night ahead of him. Poor guy. He worked really late today and then gets called in again...what a loving and devoted husband I have! God is so good to me, even though I don't deserve it. I just wish he could be safe at home with me and the boys and not on the roads late at night having had worked hard all day long. I just pray God keeps him safe.

Well, I am very tired. I haven't stopped running today, so I am turning in. May God watch over you all as you rest tonight. Until tomorrow...

Scratching Post or Whipping Post???

Good afternoon to all my friends and family! How are you today?

Well, I'm just going to jump in with my story today.

Do you remember about two weeks ago I mentioned in one of my blogs that I was suffering from an allergic reaction to something? I still haven't changed any foods or routines. I changed my sheets, etc. I am still slowly but surely getting worse. My face swelled up yesterday around my cheekbones and I broke out in welts. Nathan joined Jordan and I for dinner before church and he was surprised at how bad it looked. I told him it feels even worse than it looks! I would love to just take a Brillo pad and go to town or maybe just wear out a scratching post!

As far as the whipping post story goes, it started when Jordan rode home with me after church. I had to stop at Walmart and finish some shopping. I had my shopping list on my iPad. I set my iPad in the seat of the cart and I was pushing the cart. I am extremely careful whenever I do this. I kept pushing the cart, but Jordan kept insisting that he push the cart for me. I looked him in the eye and I said, "ok, but do NOT take your eyes off my iPad. I don't want someone to come and swipe it if you're not looking. Do NOT let it out of your sight, ok?" He said ok. We finished our shopping. I paid for the groceries, took the cart out to the car. Jordan unloaded all the groceries for me and took the cart back to the cart corral. By this time, it was a little after 9:00 pm. I drove home. My face felt like it was going to explode because of the itching and welts. Nathan told me to soak in the tub, which I did until I looked like a prune! I got out, took my hair down, and got dressed in my pajamas. I was getting ready to turn in for the night when I realized I needed to plug in my cell phone and iPad. I found my cell phone...but, no iPad. I searched the house. I searched the car. That's when I realized Jordan must have left it in the shopping cart at Walmart! I ran back inside, changed into my clothes, jumped in the car and started driving like a crazy woman to Walmart. On my way, I pulled out my Walmart receipt, got the phone number and called ahead. I spoke with Jason at customer service. I told him what happened and he said they had my iPad and they would hold it for me at customer service! Boy! What a relief! I told Jordan it was a good thing they found it and I was able to get it back or I would've tied him to a whipping post and beat him with a wet noodle!!! Oh, I forgot to mention...right before I took my bath, Nathan had me take a Benedryl so it would help with my itching and to help me sleep. When I take one Benedryl tablet, it knocks me on my rear. I can't function. So, as I'm driving back from Walmart (it is now 10:35) the silly Benedryl decides to finally kick in! I was getting so sleepy driving home. I was fit to be tied! I did manage to make it home without falling asleep at the wheel! Oh, well...that's how things go around here!

Well, that's my latest saga for today. Hopefully, I won't have any continuations of either story for tomorrow! Take care and God bless!

Does Your No Mean No?

Good evening to all! How are you all doing? I am doing alright tonight.

I got up and around. I cleaned the kitchen a little. I also made a fresh batch of my sourdough English muffins.

Aaron got only three hours of sleep last night. He started coming down with a cold Friday night before testing. He couldn't sleep because he was coughing so badly. I offered to give him some cough syrup before bed, but he refused. I gave him a tablespoon of honey and a hot toddy (virgin of course). He finally went to sleep. He woke up three hours later with his throat constricting. He was struggling to get his breath. He does have an inhaler and he only uses it about once a year. When he gets sick, it usually settles and he becomes asthmatic. Well, when he woke up, he needed his inhaler. He had no idea where it was and the silly guy didn't even wake me up to help him find it. So Jordan actually found it for him this morning.

I taught a music lesson with KK this morning. She did very well. She does a half hour of voice and a half hour of piano. Speaking of which, Jordan needs to begin his voice lessons with me!

This afternoon, Jordan and I went to karate. We had an awesome class today. We really worked on punching and keeping the energy moving forward. We were doing triple punches, jodan and chudan twice. Sensei was watching and he told me in front of the class that I was most improved! Yaaaaay for me!!! I have been trying to focus on widening my stance and going lower.

Well, Jordan is going through a phase. Don't worry...it's nothing bad. I just want to know if this is normal for all other pre-teen boys out there. I will ask Jordan a question and he automatically says "no" and then turns right around in the same breath and says, "well, actually, yes..." and continues the conversation with a straight face. He's done it everyday for almost a week. Oh well...mark it up for the hormones talking.

I am going to turn in early tonight. I know I will rest well. May God bless you! Until tomorrow...

Feed a Cold...Starve a Flu

Good evening everyone. How are you? Most of us are doing well.

I woke up early this morning and made Nathan some Greek yogurt with honey, fresh strawberries and granola, and a cup of mocha to go. I also packed him a lunch, chicken enchiladas with green beans.

I got the boys on their chores first thing. I made the boys bacon egg cheese mc muffins for breakfast. I ate a couple of slices of turkey bacon and one sourdough English muffin with jam on it. Then I got to cleaning house. I picked up the front piano room. I picked up a little in the living room. I totally got my kitchen clean...just in time to destroy it again.

My dear friend Aysha has been pretty sick. I feel so bad for her. Aaron also started coming down sick Friday night before testing. It hit him full force this morning and he feels absolutely horrid. My grandma used to always say, "Feed a cold...starve a flu." So guess what I did? I cooked up a batch of homemade chicken noodle soup with the old fashion homemade noodles just like my grandma always made! I made a double batch. I also made rolls to go with it. There's nothing like good old comfort food when you feel terrible. I decided to make some banana bread for breakfast too. I made double batches of everything. I plan to give the other food to Aysha since she is sick. Hopefully this is just what the doctor ordered for both Aaron and Aysha.

I am trying to get the house clean for company Friday night and I don't want to spend all day Friday cleaning up, so I thought I'd try and get a little bit done each day.

Well, I need to go get supper on the table. Until tomorrow...God bless!

Karate Testing

Good evening to everyone out there! How are you tonight? I am sore and wiped out, but great!

I woke up at 5:45 this morning so I could wake up Jordan and Aaron to feed the chickens and chicks before we left for karate testing today.

Brown belt clinic started at 8:00, but we had to be there by 7:45. We learned about balancing, unbalancing and off-balancing. We also learned about fixed stance and unfixed stance. Then clinic started at 9:30. We worked on more of the same stuff with the lower colored belts. I got to work with Sommi. She is a very sweet girl from our East Mountain dojo. She is from India and has been adopted into a really nice family. Sommi is such an inspiration for me. Sommi has no arms. She is a very courageous young lady and I truly admire her.

Testing started around 11:10. Aaron was testing for 1st kyu which is a 3rd degree brown belt. I am already 1st kyu, but I earned a B, so I had to retest today to take the B off before I can test for a black belt. Aaron was absolutely amazing! Even Sensei Nagatomo said so!!! I did very well. I made a few mistakes on the some of the basics, but I did very well on kata. My sparring was ok, but I did make one very small mistake (my foot slipped on the flooring when I went to counter-attack). My sparring partner did not spar very well, so it made my sparring very difficult. Like I said, Aaron did fabulously! I bet you can't tell that I am a wee bit proud!!!

I am very proud of myself. It wasn't my best testing, but I am proud that I tried my best. I made quite a few changes to my kata and remembered most of them! I attempted to do more than I thought I could do. I am really beginning to enjoy the process as Sensei Caesar said it. We need to enjoy every minute of what we experience. No matter if we pass or fail, we need to savor the moment and learn from each experience. It used to really bother me if I didn't feel like I did "perfectly". Today was my first testing that I didn't feel bummed about all the mistakes I made. I am learning!

Well, I am going to bed now. I hope I sleep well tonight! Sleep well my friends. God bless!

Destroying a Piano...

Good morning everyone! I am just getting up and around this morning. I got Nathan's breakfast and lunch together and sent him off to work today.

I am super excited! We are getting a church gospel meeting together this summer and I came across a facility for us to rent. We were able to get a huge discount and we got the entire facility for less than what we were willing to pay for only part if the facility! Isn't it great how God always supplies when we are in need?!! So, now on to organizing the event...

Last night, we got home from karate and we all worked on Nathan's anniversary present to me. Ok...I guess I'm going to go ahead and spill the beans. I don't feel so bad since Nathan already told a couple of people at church Wednesday night! Nathan acquired a 5 foot baby grand piano with a mahogany finish for free. The sound board is cracked and was in need of total restoration. The piano itself was kind of a "cheap" one and wasn't worth the money to restore it, so the people advertised it for free to a good home! Nathan jumped right on it. Now, Nathan is blaming Avram for the rest of this story! Avram had sent a link to Nathan that contained a picture of a baby grand that was gutted and remodeled into a beautiful bookcase! So, when we picked up the piano Wednesday night from the previous owner's home, we decided the best way to transport it was to remove the top, turn it upside down and travel with it that way. It was a piano player's nightmare come true...to see a piano being transported upside down. Anyone following Nathan home on the Interstate probably thought..."Don't you know you're NOT supposed to move a piano like that???" Nathan even suggested to do it that way and I very reluctantly agreed. Even though I knew it wasn't going to ruin the piano any more than it already was, I just couldn't hardly bring myself to agree with it! We got the piano home and (bless Chad's heart) he offered to come over and help us unload it!

Now here is where it should've seemed like "Nightmare in the Music Shop"...

We started disassembling the piano. I just had flashbacks of the movie "Short Circuit". The robot was freaking out because he squashed a butterfly (unintentionally) and the girl was trying to explain to him what it means to die...disassemble. So when the bad guys came to destroy the robot he freaked out and asked Stephanie, "Disassemble, Stephanie???" We were "disassembling" the piano and to a piano player, that just seems totally downright WRONG!!! First we removed every single screw we could get to. Nathan couldn't reach several under the strings, so he had to get out his grinder and cut all the strings! A couple of the huge screws were either stripped or majorly stuck. In fact, the one that was stuck, Nathan actually broke two of his Craftsman screwdrivers trying to get the screw unstuck! He said he had never broken a Craftsman screwdriver on a screw before! After Jordan, Aaron and I got all the strings removed from all the tuning pegs, it took all four of us to lift the cast iron guts out of the piano case. Next was the soundboard. I happened to look over and seemed like I was watching it slow motion. I watched Nathan approach the piano with a hammer and chisel. I knew this was not going to be good! He started prying up and breaking up the soundboard. The noise of splintering wood made me cringe. So, about an hour and a half later, we pretty much have it gutted. There is only one small section that still needs to be removed. Not bad. I thought it would take a lot longer to tear it apart. God was really watching out for us, especially Aaron last night. We could've had a major disaster with injuries last night, but Aaron's guardian angels were working overtime yesterday. After we took the cast iron part out (the main bulk of a piano), we moved it off to the side, tipped it on its side, leaned it against the generator and Nathan had Aaron working with a hammer to pry the wood board with the tuning pegs off the metal frame. The frame weighs approximately about 200 pounds or so. We forgot to realize that the generator was sitting on top of a furniture dolly (with rolling wheels). It's not such a great idea to lean something extremely heavy against something on wheels. As Aaron was working on getting the tuning pegs off, the frame came crashing down...with Aaron's right hand still underneath the 200 pound frame. It landed with his hand still under the frame. He got a couple of bruises on him wrist and forearm, the meaty part of his palm was a little swollen, and his third finger was starting to pop and swell. He was pretty sure his finger wasn't broken. He's broken a finger before and this wasn't like that. I told him to ice up. This morning, there's just two little red marks on his wrist and forearm and his knuckle is swollen just a little bit. Thank our Heavenly Father for caring for him and protecting him. It could've been much worse. My first thought was, I hope he didn't break anything. My second thought was, how is he going to do testing this Saturday? We are getting ready for karate testing tomorrow morning. Sensei just gave everyone a lecture yesterday at class about taking care of yourselves especially before testing...

Oh well, I need to get the boys up and doing chores this morning so I can go do my chores as well. Please take care. I will keep you posted on our progress with the piano bookcase! May God bless you today!

Amazing Anniversary Present!

Good morning to all! How are you this beautiful morning? We are all doing very well thank you!

Sorry I didn't enter a blog last night. I went to bed real early...I know, I know, that is so unlike me! I think I was mentally and physically exhausted from karate classes yesterday. We are preparing for testing on Saturday. My Sensei says that I am ready. That always seems to settle my nerves a bit, but I train very hard just to have that "edge" each time I get out on the dojo floor. Aaron is (Lord willing) testing this Saturday as well. I am sure he will pass with flying colors. He has taken a huge leap forward in his abilities. Jordan has majorly improved on his sparring skills in class. I cannot believe the changes he has made! I am so proud of both my boys! I'm not sure yet if Jordan will be testing or not this time. We should know by Thursday evening if he is.

Well, got a little bit of not-so-good news...lost another tilapia yesterday. One just got bullied to death. We knew he had been getting picked on by one fish in particular, so we separated them, but it was a little too late. So, now we are down to seven. Thankfully though, they are all looking pretty healthy.

As for my fodder, we have NO mold! Yaaaaayyyyy!!! I think I might have this figured out (knock on wood)! Today is day seven and we are ready to feed the first two trays today. I have no slime. There is no rotting smell. It's all good! Praise The Lord! I was about to go crazy trying to figure out what to do next!

Nathan and I are (Lord willing) getting ready to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary this April. He is planning a major gift for me (besides whisking me away on a Mediterranean cruise). He is making me an extremely unique gift. We are planning on picking it up today. It's going to take a lot of work to build it the way he is envisioning it. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but it's going to be wonderful working on this with him! I am not big into material gifts, but this is an exception! I will post pictures when it is done!

I need to go light a fire under my boys this morning. I woke them up 40 minutes ago and haven't seen hide nor hair of either one of them! This is going to be our crazy day. I teach piano and voice lessons from 10-1. Then we leave around 1:40 for drama that goes from 2-4. Then we go straight into town to run errands, eat dinner, then go to church! Lastly, we come home and do evening chores before bed...Wednesdays are a bit crazy, huh?

Take care. Please ask questions, leave comments, or request topics you'd like me to share about. I can talk about animal farming, gardening, cooking, canning...etc. What do you want to hear about? I've shared a lot of my funny farm stories. Birthing season is coming up, so that's usually when I get a bunch of funny stories...things always seem to not go the way we expect them to!

May God bless you today and always! Until tomorrow...

Sourdough English Muffins

Good evening everyone. How are you this fine evening? I am doing well.

I had a typical day today, nothing out of the ordinary. I cleaned the kitchen this morning. Seems like that is a never-ending job for me! Hmmm...I wonder why???

I made the boys some Fruity Baked Oatmeal for breakfast. For lunch, we just heated left-overs. I was chilled to the bone after lunch, so (shhhhh...don't tell anyone) I crawled under my heating blanket and I grabbed me a little nap!!!

I woke up, got ready, and rode with Aaron to his guitar lesson. He drove on the interstate this afternoon and did pretty well. He still makes me a little nervous from time to time, but over-all, he is doing very well. While Aaron was a guitar, I made my weekly visit to my favorite little coffee shop, Beyond Grounds. I got my usual (a cup of French vanilla latte) and I splurged and got a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie for me and a oatmeal craisin cookie for Aaron. We usually share my latte. I am very impressed with their baked goods. They have a bak who comes in several times a week and bakes fresh goodies for them. They are almost as good as what I make myself! It's a great thing that I have karate to exercise off all my extra calories!

Got home tonight and warmed up left-overs. Aaron had a bowl of Sinagang (a Filapino soup) with rice. Jordan, Nathan and I all had African chicken with rice. After supper was over, I made a fresh batch of sourdough English muffins. My boys really love those. I have a hard time keeping them in stock around here! I plan on making Pomodoro Egg Bake for Nathan tomorrow morning. You take a fresh, ripe tomato, cut off the top quarter of the tomato. Scoop out the insides. Dry out the inside of the tomato shell with a paper towel. Put in 2 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. Break an egg into the tomato. Sprinkle the top with basil, salt and pepper. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes until the white is set, but the yolk isn't too hard. Then you take it out, top with a little more Parmesan cheese and serve on top of a toasted English muffin. I sure hope Nathan likes it! I've even got my coffee pot set and already to brew on a timer!

Well, Nathan is already in bed. I guess I should go and get ready. Tomorrow is another big day. Rest well my dear friends. God bless you all.

Super Bowl Sunday Cogburn Style

Good evening everyone! Hello again. How are you? I am doing much better.

I kind of slept in this morning. The boys did their usual morning chores and I fixed breakfast, turkey bacon, eggs, and toast with coffee.

Aaron drove us to church this morning. This was the second time he drove on the interstate, but the first time with Nathan in the car with him. I think Nathan was as nervous as Aaron!

After church let out, Nathan and Jordan had tickets to a car show that was in town this weekend. Just recently, Jordan has really taken an interest in cars, especially Corvettes, Chargers, Challengers, certain Mustangs. He thoroughly enjoyed himself. Aaron and I spent the afternoon together just hanging out. I eventually stopped at one of our favorite Thai restaurants and Aaron ordered a young coconut milkshake. I ordered a Vietnamese coffee over ice and we both shared a flan with sliced strawberries.

We attended evening services. Afterwards, we had invited our good friend Avram Gooden over to watch the Super Bowl which we recorded it on the DVR. I made a huge batch of jalapeño poppers with turkey bacon and surprise, surprise...rabbit stew! My boys were very industrious yesterday and caught a rabbit. Faith, Aaron's dog, chased down a rabbit and ran it into a pipe. The boys grabbed the pipe, Aaron reached in (with gloves on), pulled the rabbit out, and harvested the rabbit. They were so excited that they got another rabbit, they couldn't wait for me to make some more rabbit stew! Avram, a former Marine, had never eaten rabbit before. He was very impressed with the meal. I was very sad his girlfriend (my long-lost "twin sister"), Robin Reedy, couldn't be here to join us. For dessert, I made two kinds of Kolachi (a Polish sweet bread). I made the original recipe with a cream cheese and tapioca filling and I made a lemon almond poppy seed filling. I hadn't eaten the poppy seed filling since I was a child. I remember as a child that I didn't like it as much as the original filling...the opinion still stands!

The actual football game was nerve racking! I was rooting for the Baltimore Ravens. One of their players is named Michael Oher. He was featured in a movie called The Blindside. Excellent movie! I was rooting for him. They played an incredible first half. There was a power outage during the game and the second half was absolutely horrible! The almost handed the game over to the 49ers. It was definitely nerve wracking! I'm glad no one ruined it for me this year and told me who won before I got to finish watching the game. Nathan sure teased about telling me who won, but he didn't!

We sure enjoyed the food and fellowship with Avram and our family. What a great day! Oh, just in case you are wondering, yes...I am still itching, but I am somewhat better. I am tired now, so I'm headed to bed. Sleep well and God bless.

Down Time

Good evening! How are you tonight? I am doing very well.

I went to bed still itchy, but I did take some Benedryl before climbing into bed. My darling hubby was so wonderfully sweet to let me sleep in this morning! I think I woke up around 8:30! My honey had a pot of coffee just waiting for me!

I made a pumpkin spice cake, sourdough blueberry nut waffles, scrambled eggs with cheese and sausage patties. I wanted to make a scrumptious breakfast for Nathan since he was especially thoughtful.

After breakfast, I did my morning chores. I put out two new trays of fodder grains. I have not seen any more signs of mold yet. I just keep hoping it stays that way. I soaked another two trays worth of grain for tomorrow's trays.

Nathan needed to do a 50% water change on his tilapia breeding tanks. I decided to help him since he and Jordan were up on the roof cleaning our chimney pipe. I drained and cleaned both tanks and refilled both with fresh water. While I was at it, I topped of Nathan's reserve salt water tank reservoir as well.

I came in and cleaned up my kitchen some. After I finished this, I set everything out for Aaron to heat up leftovers for the guys' lunch. I made an appointment at a wonderful beauty salon called The Cutting Edge. My hair dresser is Bea. Boy, she does work wonders! I got some highlights and lowlights, wash, trim and style. It felt good to have someone pamper me and "play" with my hair! That in and of itself could put me to sleep or render me catatonic! So I am attaching a pic of me once I got back from getting my highlights. I hope you can see the colors in the pic.

Well, sorry I haven't had any exciting news around here on the farm, but that should be changing here in the near future. Nathan and the boys trimmed the alpacas hooves and the goats hooves while I was getting my hair done. We have three pregnant does and one of them is starting to show signs of getting ready to kid. We're guessing it might be about a week before we have some excitement! Then I'm pretty sure to have lots of new farm stories to share!

Well, I need to go get supper ready for my hungry guys. Rest well and God bless.

Help! I'm Itching And I Can't Stop!

Good evening to everyone! How are you? I've been better.

I am about ready to go nuts. For the last three days, I have been itching all over my face and just my right forearm. I have checked and I have not changed anything that I'm aware of. No new foods, hairspray, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, etc. I have racked my brains and cannot come up with anything.

I would be just as happy to stay home with a brillo pad and just go to town on my face! Instead, tonight we went to a concert by the Josties. They are a Christian Bluegrass family of musicians. The band is led by the mom and dad. They have eleven children. They all play and/or sing with such beautiful harmonies and the words they sing just grab your heart. They truly honor God with their talents and bless all who hear them. Our boys really enjoyed the concert. They had a nice reception following the concert and we got to visit with a bunch of other like-minded Christian homeschooling families. Even though I felt miserable, I was glad I went.

We are home now and Nathan wants me to take another shower (my third one today) to hopefully get whatever is bothering me, off of me before I go to bed. He's going to change the sheets so hopefully I'll rest better tonight.

Rest well my friends. I pray God blesses you today and always. Until tomorrow...
